TWO TOP 5 FINISHES FOR LANIK

Sunday 1st June 2008
UK ELF Clio Cup 2008 at Croft – ROUND 9+10

CROFT’s exciting race weekend saw Y4HR Miracle Drywash team’s race driver, double champion Niki Lanik, move up to 6th place in the 2008 ELF Clio Cup standings. Qualifying 5th & 4th for Round 9 & 10 Niki was hoping for two podium finishes, but in both races couldn’t put together the overtaking manoeuvres and had to settle for two top five finishes – 5th & 4th. The team’s plan this year is to finish 3rd in the official 2008 Clio Cup.

AUSTRIAN race driver, Niki Lanik, has won two races and the 2006 & 2007 Clio Winter Cup titles at Croft race circuit. In Saturday’s 30-minute qualifying session Niki made a good effort to qualify 5th & 4th for Round 9 & 10, the mid-point of the 2008 Clio season. The Miracle Drywash-sponsored Clio was only 0.520 seconds off pole position. “At the next race meeting my goal is to qualify on the first row. This is something I haven’t done yet in the national Clio Cup and it would certainly increase the likelihood of a race win.” commented the 21-year old.

LANIK had his worst race start of the season during Round 9, were he wheelspun too much off the start line. This allowed two drivers to get by before the Clervaux, the first corner. Niki overtook one with ease, while the other had a drive-through-penalty due to an illegal start off the line. The youngster then challenged the Bradley for 4th place for the remaining 11 laps but couldn’t find a way past. Niki settled for a well-deserved 5th place. “It was a good race. It was a bit frustrating as I couldn’t get by Bradley. I was definitely a bit quicker than him but unfortunately at the wrong parts of the track.” said double podium finisher, Niki Lanik.

ROUND 10 was delayed by over two hours due to extreme weather conditions and missed it’s live ITV4 slot. The race was still recorded and will be shown on ITV’s Motorsport UK within the next six weeks. Lanik, started 4th for Round 10, and came great off the line to challenge his main opponent, 3rd placed Phil Glew, into the first corner but had to settle for 4th for the chicane. Lanik then tried numerous ways to get by Glew, but once again couldn’t find a way past.

“I got a bit frustrated again today, as I nearly finished on the podium again. 4th place is also good. Glew’s a very good driver, and for some reason I had troubles overtaking some drivers this weekend. I’m really looking forward to the next race meeting at Silverstone on 8th June where I get to race the Grand Prix circuit. Another podium and finishing in front of Bradley and Glew is what the team and I are aiming for as a result, as this could move us up to 3rd in the championship.” Niki said reassuringly. Niki has not raced on the Silverstone GP circuit before but being a quick learner he should get the hang of it after a few laps.
